“1:18 For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (NET)
That word translated "foolishness" in the Greek is "Moria" (which is the Nominative Singular Feminine form of the word). Moria is the noun form, and since the classic Tolkien reference, I chose to use the Adjective form (in the nominative feminine singular), which is mora, or in English, foolish.
The publishing company would be devoted to getting out that message of foolishness, that is, the foolishness that God the Son would come down on a cross and die in our place in order to save us. In a word: Gospel.
MoraPress. I originally wanted to name my first blog "The Mora Project," but evidently there is already a band named that. There is a company named Mora Knives (out of Sweden I think...). But I think I'd be safe with my name.
That's my plan. I'm not quite sure when that will happen though. I hope to finish college, find a long term job, save some capital, and then find a small group of people (a mix of academic and lay theologians, scientists, writers, historians, philosophers, and soccer moms;) to start it.
My goals are books published each year, several bloggers supported, and a few high-quality, free, online theology and apologetics classes. The books would start as reprints of old out of print books (starting with Bruce Metzger's The Jehovah's Witnesses and Jesus Christ). The ultimate goal would of course to get out a mix of reprints and original content.
In case you can't tell, I plan big and am also very future oriented. I pray that God makes this possible, but whatever He wills will happen:) My job is to work hard in whatever vocation God calls me to, whether that's working a 9 to 5 or operating a publishing company.
Soli Deo Gloria,
- Jonah
